Colorado Senate Majority Leader Robert Rodriguez introduced his heavily anticipated proposal to update artificial-intelligence regulations on Friday. And in today’s “Colorado Chamber Office Hours” episode, I discuss with both him and a business-community leader what this bill will mean to technology companies and employers statewide.
Rodriguez, D-Denver, discusses the two-year process of bringing various interest groups together to agree on updates to a 2024 state law that many officials agreed was too stringent to be implemented effectively. He talks also about the changes that were made and how the bill changes regulations in substance but not in the guiding principle of avoiding algorithmic discrimination.
Then Liz Peetz, Comcast vice president of government and community affairs, expounds on all the ways this could impact employers — from those professions that use AI to evaluate loan applications to the many companies that use artificial-intelligence programs to sift through job applications. Peetz also shares why, after years of negotiations, she feels the bill has landed in a good place.
