Aerospace remains a $14.2 billion sector in Colorado, producing two jobs in other industries for every job created by a Lockheed Martin Space or a United Launch Alliance. But the state’s pre-eminent position in the national industry could be in trouble if government leaders don’t give more attention to it, according to a new study. And the author of that study is this week’s guest on the “Colorado Chamber Office Hours” podcast.
I talk with Kat Saunders, head of strategy and leadership with Economic Leadership, the firm that put together the study commissioned by the Colorado Chamber Foundation. She discusses the state’s inherent advantages at attracting and retaining these high-paying companies but also the new strategies that other states are using to bring aerospace growth to their regions and the 18 recommendations she lays out for Colorado in areas ranging from incentives to workforce development to executive action.
