Feb. 2 “Colorado Chamber Office Hours”: Labor Peace Act debate

Colorado state Reps. Javier Mabrey and Chris Richardson discuss the proposal to upend the Colorado Labor Peace Act in separate interviews on the "Colorado Chamber Office Hours" podcast.

Beginning this week, the “Colorado Chamber Office Hours” podcast switches to a new format: Hearing both sides on a major bill that is coming up. And with the new effort to amend the Colorado Labor Peace Act scheduled for its first committee hearing on Thursday, the show interviews two legislators who will be a big part of the debate.

Rep. Javier Mabrey, a Denver Democrat and cosponsor of House Bill 1005, explains first why the bill is so important to proponents and how he believes it can increase salaries in the midst of a statewide affordability crisis if more private-sector workplaces can unionize more easily.

Then Rep. Chris Richardson, an Elbert County Republican who is the ranking minority member of the House Business Affairs and Labor Committee, discusses why he believes that the second unionization election that HB 1005 proposes to eliminate is so important and how he feels this effort to upend the Labor Peace Act could hurt smaller businesses in particular.
