Jan. 12 “Colorado Chamber Office Hours” with House Minority Leader Jarvis Caldwell

"Colorado Chamber Office Hours" host Ed Sealover interviews Colorado House Minority Leader Jarvis Caldwell in his Capitol office.

In this week’s episode of the “Colorado Chamber Office Hours” podcast, host Ed Sealover sits down with Colorado House Minority Leader Jarvis Caldwell to discuss his caucus’ priorities for the coming legislative session and how Republicans can exert influence even at a 43-22 disadvantage in seats.

Caldwell, a first-term representative from Monument who was elected to lead House Republicans this fall after former Minority Leader Rose Pugliese stepped down, talks about his plans to try to work across the aisle with Democrats on anything his party considers to be a good bill. But he notes that Republicans also have to stand strong on a number of principles, not the least of which is to make life more affordable for everyday Coloradans.

To increase affordability, Caldwell said, legislators must examine how any proposed regulations, particularly around emissions-reduction mandates, impact the cost of living or of doing business.

“I think what you see right now the utopian ideal bumping up against reality,” he said of the number of environmental regulations that he believes will increase utility bills and other costs.
